The history of the company
The Varianta brand appeared in the depths of the Dehler shipyard when in 1966 Willy Dehler first launched Varianta 65, designed by the Dutch architect E. G. van de Stadt. A few years later this yacht became a European bestseller among GRP yachts.
The press called Varianta 65 the «Volkswagen Beetle on Water and»thousands of yachtsmen were able to experience the advantages of a boat with a hull made of a new revolutionary material.
Since 1966-82 the shipyard has built about 4000 such yachts. By 1980 Dehler had abandoned its previous model system and started to build yachts under the Dehler brand only. In 2009, Dehler was taken over by Hanse Yachts, which revived the Varianta brand with the launch of Varianta 18 designed by Henrike Gänß. This model was based on the Dehler 18 «Red Riding Hood»created by the design bureau Judel/Vrolijk. The Varianta 18 was well received by young yachtsmen, but after the sale of 299 hulls of this model in 2014 it was discontinued due to reduced demand and low production efficiency. In the same year, the shipyard began production of Varianta 37 and 44.
Production
Varianta’s production is concentrated at the Hanse Group sites in Graiswald on the Baltic Sea coast.
Model range
Today Varianta brings together 37-44 feet of economy sailing cruising yachts.
The Varianta 37 and Varianta 44 models are built as economical versions of the Hanse 375 and Hanse 430 respectively. They are based on the proven Judel/Vrolijk cabinets, complete with simpler equipment. The yachts have basic interiors, exterior finishes and a budget sailing wardrobe.
Features
Varianta is a strong entry level sailboat at a relatively low price. The yard emphasizes that this line is a great option for sailing school: these models are strong, easy to maintain and bring a lot of pleasure from sailing. The economical approach to the construction of these boats refers more to the aesthetic components, but does not affect the main thing – the boats remain reliable, well controlled and have excellent speed characteristics for their size.
Varianta’s competitiveness is confirmed in the regattas: there are many references in the press about the balance of these boats, good helmsman’s feedback and small aviating angle.
