History of the company
The Swedish shipyard Malö Yachts was founded by Johannes Olsson in 1939 and was originally named Olsöners Båtbyggen. During the first 30 years, the company, based in Kungsviken, built wooden sailing yachts. In 1963, Johannes’ sons Bo and Orvar Olsson took over the business and in 1963 they built their first Malö Yachts based on laminated fiberglass.
In 1984, the company was taken over by the grandsons of the shipyard founder, Lars and Berngt Olsson, until the sale of the business to Bob Erickson in 2008. This makes Malö one of the oldest shipyards in Northern Europe.
By paying attention to detail and performing many operations manually, the shipyard did not chase large volumes. In years of steady demand the company has produced up to 27 yachts per year.
Malö boats have always been distinguished by their exceptional workmanship and seaworthiness. In its history, the brand has received numerous expert awards.
For example, in 2009 the editorial staff of Cruising World chose Malö 37 as the yacht of the year.
In 2017 Malö brand became part of Sweden Yachts Group, which also includes Sweden Yachts, CR Yachts and Regina af Vindö Yachts.
